Ahead of Monday’s NATO Summit, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg referred to the main topics on the agenda, reiterating that the Western Balkans is of great importance for the Alliance, MIA reports from Brussels.
“We have new member-states from this region – North Macedonia and Montenegro – which is a proof that the NATO door is open. We also work with other partners in the region, KFOR is still present in Kosovo and we are continuing our support to stabilize the region,” said Stoltenberg.
The summit is North Macedonia’s first as full-fledged member of the Alliance, and the first for United States President Joe Biden.
Stoltenberg said the summit would focus on budget issues and the Alliance’s request to member-states to increase their defense contributions in national budgets, but also in NATO towards supporting its modernization.
