As the number of new COVID-19 infections is dropping, the number of people vaccinated against the virus is rising on daily basis. By Thursday, a total of 241,368 people have received a COVID-19 shot, the Health Ministry has said.

Also, a total of 362,710 doses have been applied at vaccination sites across the country. According to latest data of the Health Ministry, 47% of people over 70 and 41% of people over 65 have received at least one dose.

Vaccination of all patients with chronic illnesses and people considered at high risk of contracting COVID-19, aged 20-40, started on Thursday.

Health Minister Venko Filipche has announced a shipment of 500,000 vaccines of the manufacturer Sinovac might arrive in the country in the coming seven days. However, he said, I’m reserved, but I hope it will happen.

The new batch of Sinovac vaccines is expected to accelerate the vaccination campaign in the country.

As regards Sputnik V jabs, Filipche said the arrival of another batch in the country could be delayed, according to information from the Russian Ambassador.

Earlier this week, Minister Filipche also revealed that North Macedonia is set to receive another 70,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including 50,000 from Bulgaria and 20,000 from Greece.

A Greek government spokeswoman on Thursday confirmed that Greece will send 20,000 jabs to North Macedonia.

Furthermore, Bulgaria is planning to donate 150,000 AstraZeneca vaccines to Western Balkan countries after North Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, and Bosnia and Herzegovina have already sent requests to Bulgaria.

Skopje on Thursday recorded no new hospitalizations in Covid units for the first time after a while. A total of 141 COVID-19 patients, including 58 in Skopje, are being currently treated at infectious diseases wards across the country.

North Macedonia yesterday recorded 19 new infections after 2,456 COVID-19 tests conducted in the past 24 hours. Six people died in the same time period and 26 people were registered as having recovered from the virus.

More restrictions, including the midnight curfew, could be eased after June 15 if the epidemiological situation remains the same, Minister Filipche has said.
