“In the coming period, the role of the Commissions for Inter-Community Relations at the local level will be strengthened,” said the national coordinator for Interculturalism, Robert Alagjozovski, at the CIVIL public event on “European values – (im)possible mission: Equality, non-discrimination and multiculturalism through the prism of policies and practices at the national level“, answering the question of CIVIL Media – Does and to what extent the state Strategy for a society imply strengthening of the local Commissions for inter-community relations?
“An analysis has been made, we will soon publish it officially as a document of the Government for the status of implementation, already in 2028. An analysis was made in cooperation between the Ministry of Local Self-Government and ADI Gostivar, for the inadequacies and all dysfunctions of the Commissions for Inter-Community Relations at the local level. The Law on Local Self-Government will be amended next, at the moment when the Ministry will propose the amendment of the laws, it means that the law will be opened soon because it was adopted in 2004, and in the forthcoming period those legal changes will be introduced. The role of these commissions will be further strengthened, which does not mean that we do not encourage the municipalities to work and function at this moment.
“We even conducted the census campaign in the municipality of Petrovec, where there are three larger communities, functioning flawlessly at all levels, and that is an example of good practice,” said Alagjozovski.
