Macedonian and Bulgarian delegations, led by Presidents Stevo Pendarovski and Rumen Radev, will jointly observe the Day of Ss. Cyril and Methodius-May 24 in Rome.
Radev will arrive in Skopje and briefly meet with Pendarovski at the airport, before departing with a Bulgarian aircraft, alongside a group of Bulgarian and Macedonian journalists, to the Italian capital, said the President’s Office.
Countries’ delegations have paid their respects on the Day of Ss. Cyril and Methodius for several years now, laying flowers at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and the grave of St.Cyril in the Basilica of San Clemente in Rome and the Vatican.
The delegations will also hold separate meetings with the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis.
Furthermore, a delegation of the Macedonian Orthodox Church-Ohrid Archbishopric, led by Bishop Pimen, will hold a service at St.Cyril’s grave on May 24.
Pendarovski and Radev cancelled last year’s visit to Rome and the Vatican due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
