The lindane will be exported to France and the contaminated soil under the lindane will go to The Netherlands. About 700 tons of contaminated soil is to be removed by the onset of 2022, said Government Spokesperson Dushko Arsovski on the remediation plan at the site of former chemical plant OHIS, after the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning issued the required permits on Wednesday.
“The remediation plan officially begins with the issuance of these two permits for export of hazardous waste, in accordance with the Basel Convention. The lindane will be exported to France and the contaminated soil under the lindane to The Netherlands. According to the projected timeline, the removal of the small landfill will be completed by the start of 2022, pandemic permitted, including 700 tons of contaminated soil,” Arsovski told a press conference.
The Government approved yesterday the OHIS remediation plan, after the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) informed the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning that the plan of Greek waste management company “Polyeco” over the soil decontamination procedure in OHIS has been approved.
