We don’t comment on ongoing investigations, says the US Embassy to North Macedonia when asked for a comment after the police crackdown on a group of people issuing false passports containing stolen identities.
The US Embassy fosters close cooperation with the Interior Ministry (MoI) and with other government ministries and institutions in North Macedonia aimed at law enforcement and rule of law, including regional cooperation in law enforcement and fight against terrorism, it says in a response to 360 Stepeni web-portal’s question.
The US Embassy, it adds, in close cooperation with the ministries of the interior and justice has been providing technical assistance, forensic, training and equipment to improve the law enforcement capacities and those of judicial institutions.
According to the Embassy, these activities contribute to national and regional security by strengthening border security, transparency and the prospect of prosecuting corruption, terrorism and organized crime cases.
Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski has said the arrests were made as part of an international operation of North Macedonia’s police with the US Embassy’s regional security office and the general secretariat of Interpol in Lyon and Interpol in Skopje.
