The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has sent a protest note via North Macedonia’s embassy in Sofia to Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry regarding a video posted by Bulgarian conservative MEP Angel Dzhambazki.
In a press release issued Monday night, the MFA said it will inform EU institutions and will react accordingly.
Such statements, said the Ministry, do not contribute to the efforts aimed at strengthening friendship, good neighborly ties and cooperation between the two countries.
“Rhetoric expressing territorial ambitions toward the neighbors is not in keeping with NATO allies and an EU member country, which is directly against the ideals and values of the European Union the two countries are strongly committed to,” read the Ministry’s statement.
MEP Dzhambazki, who is also a high-ranking official of the VMRO-BND party in Bulgaria, on Facebook posted a video with a caption reading “Macedonia is Bulgaria and Bulgaria is above all.”
“The more you come up with dreadful false history, the louder the false foundations of your pathetic reality will be undermined. The more hysterically you hate Sofia, the more Bulgarian Ohrid will become. The louder you shout your lies, the more dreadful will be your end,” Dzhambazki says in the video which features prominent landmarks of Skopje and Ohrid.
