People and companies that would be caught violating the nationwide curfew, starting March 10 and ending on March 22, will be fined or could face jail up to one year. Also, a fine up to 30 million denars for companies is envisaged under the Criminal Code.

The curfew starts at 10 pm and ends at 5 am.

Violation of the ban for movement is considered a crime of flouting health regulations during an epidemic. It is regulated under Article 206 of the Criminal Code. Namely, anyone who would breach the rules or orders in line with the measures taken during an epidemic to tackle it will be fined or face jail up to one year. If the violator is a legal entity, it will be ordered to pay a fine amounting to millions of denars.

The government at Tuesday’s session approved a recommendation of the Commission for Infectious Diseases to introduce a nationwide nighttime curfew from March 10 until March 22.

Special movement permits during curfew, issued last year by the Ministry of Administration and Information Society, will be valid this year as well.

The government adopted the first measures aimed to curb the spread of the new coronavirus exactly one year ago by shutting down schools, kindergartens and universities.

Also, it introduced a ban on mass gatherings and open-air and indoor events, while sporting events took place without spectators.

This was followed by a decision on imposing curfew on March 22, 2020, from 9 pm until 6 am. The first weekend nationwide lockdown took place on March 25, 2020
