Mayor of Stip Sashko Nikolov, President of the Municipal Council Marijana Rogozharska Popovska, President of Census Commission Sonja Kitanova, Coordinator of VMRO-DPMNE advisory group Ljube Zdravkov, VMRO-DPMNE Council member Hristina Serafimovska, Director of House of Youth Goran Trajkov and TV Iris Editor in Chief Vojo Manesvki are the seven participants in the panel discussion “Census: Statistics, not politics” to be held in Stip tomorrow, March 4, starting at 4.00 pm. The event is organized by CIVIL, with Xhabir Deralla being moderator of the event.

In compliance to the measures for protection against Covid-19, the panel discussion will be held without an audience, but will be broadcast live on CIVIL’s Facebook page, while the content resulting from the panel discussion will be published on the organization’s media platform in Macedonian, Albanian and English. Special videos will be published on CIVIL’s YouTube channel. As always, editorials with which CIVIL cooperates are invited to download all media content with an according attribution and link.

The focus of the panel discussion is on the need to separate politics from statistics, as that is what the census is – a statistical operation, and not a ground for ethno-political squabbles. It is important that the public also hears the views of the Stip participants in the panel discussion who, among else, will also be given space to share some basic information on the course of the preparations for the census, as well as on its meaning for the development of the municipalities, economy and for building politics and practices at the local and national level.

The panel discussion will last about an hour and a half. During the discussion, CIVIL’s team will be following the reactions and questions on the social networks and will pass some of them on to the participants in the discussion.

The event is part of the “Civic Lenses” project, financed by the US National Endowment for Democracy.
