Daily Brief: Conducting the census is a high state interest, not a political operation, SCPC on the TI report

NEWS OF THE DAY: Conducting the census is a high state priority, its politicization is unnecessary

The legal solution is not an obstacle for holding a successful census, the problems are in regards to its politicization, said President Stevo Pendarovski at today’s coordination of the state leadership and mayors, organized by the State Statistical Office on the occasion of the upcoming census.

-The problems are neither legal, nor technical, nor health ones, but are rather in its unnecessary politicization, which is being created in the public with calls for a boycott if the results do not reflect someone’s imagined number. They do not come from one side and are a reflection of the fear of the results, which, on the other hand, is a result of the concept of human rights as a set of privileges that someone gives to someone. That is why when we are counting ourselves in the region, we still believe that the power is in the numbers and that only in that way we realize our rights. However, human rights are not privileges that can be taken away or lost depending on someone’s decision or will, and they do not depend on the number. In a democratic country with a European future, acquired rights must not be taken away, but only increased, said Pendarovski.

According to him, if there is one thing that should scare us, it is the emigration of citizens, young people who have left the country forever in search of a better future, and says, they are people of every ethnic and religious affiliation, and from all municipalities and cities.

STATEMENT OF THE DAY: Kolozova: The Index of Transparency International is a result of the views of the business and expert elite, and not of the citizens

FLASH NEWS

The Union of High School Students and its President Blendi Hodai on behalf of the 2020/2021 generation of graduates yesterday by email sent a letter to the MPs with a request for support for taking a state final exam with two instead of four subjects, because the Ministry of Education and Science, as indicated in their letter – is ignoring them and is decisive in rejecting any compromise regarding this issue.

The Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index shows that, with the acquired 35 index points, the Republic of North Macedonia is stagnating in the fight against corruption, but at the same time notes also a decline of 5 places in the ranking list of the countries. According to the methodology, for the assessment of North Macedonia, 7 data sources have been used, and according to the current available information, a decline is noted in the areas of the rule of law and human rights and freedoms, announces the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption in relation to the Transparency International Corruption Perceptions.

Specifying the conditions for using the databases in the competence of the Ministry of Interior for the upcoming census of the population was one of the topics for which Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski spoke at today’s meeting with representatives of the State Statistical Office, led by Director Apostol Simovski.

At the meeting of the State Statistical Office with mayors regarding the census, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev also made an address. Zaev called on the mayors to be involved in all aspects of the census and to help in the implementation of a 100% successful operation.

Director of State Statistical Office Apostol Simovski stated that the methodology for implementing the census scheduled for the month of April will be published in the Official Gazette, as a public document and will contain all information to the smallest detail for its implementation.

The Council of Ambassadors welcomes the determination of the government for implementing the census and calls on all political factors and the non-governmental sector to give their contribution in the successful implementation of this statistical operation.

599 patients with Covid-19 are being treated in the infectious wards in the country.
