The Parliament is set to resume Thursday its 29th session and to pass 2021 census law in fast-track procedure.

The Parliament on Jan. 15 ended a three day-long debate on the census law, according to which the country is to conduct this statistical operation after 19 years.

In addition to the ruling coalition, Albanian opposition, the Alliance for Albanians and Alternativa announced to support the law. Opposition VMRO-DPMNE reiterated it was preparing a petition asking for the law to be annulled.

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said Wednesday SDSM and its coalition partners, including DUI, remain fully committed to the successful implementation of the Census, hoping that the Law on Census would shortly pass in Parliament, while describing the conduct of VMRO-DPMNE as ridiculous, irresponsible and unreasonable.

“SDSM and its coalition partners, including DUI, remain fully committed to the successful implementation of the Census. We urge all citizens to support the Census. I am certain that the statistical operation will produce relevant results, 100-percent accurate data that will help us create many economic policies, balanced regional development, adapted policies in all sectors – education, culture, healthcare,” PM Zaev told reporters.

The agenda of 29th session also includes draft-law on borrowing a loan by the Republic of North from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development – World Bank under the Loan Agreement for Financing the Primary Education Improvement Project, draft-law amending the Law on Drinking Water Supply and Urban Wastewater Drainage and the draft-law amending the Law on Prevention and Protection against Domestic Violence, all in fast-track procedure.

Draft-law amending the Law on Libraries, draft-law amending the Law on Cultural Heritage and draft-law on the Intelligence Agency are also listed in today’s session.
