The development of bilateral relations after the Prespa Agreement, the latest developments in the region and North Macedonia’s European perspective were the topics discussed during Thursday’s meeting between Greece’s President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and North Macedonia’s Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani, MIA’s Athens correspondent reports.
According to Sakellaropoulou’s cabinet, the Greek president said that relations between the two countries are in a new constructive period, something that is confirmed by regular high-level contacts and noted that Greece expects even closer cooperation between the two countries.
“The President is confident that our country remains a firm supporter of the European perspective of North Macedonia, surely always with the main criteria of set conditions and respect for the principles of good neighbourliness. She pointed out that the complete, consistent and in good faith implementation of the Prespa Agreement is crucial, both for North Macedonia’s EU accession process and for our bilateral relations,” said Sakellaropoulou’s cabinet after the meeting with FM Osmani.
Osmani briefed Sakellaropoulou on implantation of the Prespa Agreement as well as the opportunities for cooperation between the two countries, and thanked for Greece’s support to North Macedonia on its path to the EU.
Later in the day, Osmani is to meet Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias to discuss bilateral relations, ways to intensify political dialogue in different areas, as well as the action plan for implementation of the Prespa Agreement, North Macedonia’s Foreign Ministry said in a press statement.
Greece’s Foreign Ministry said in a press release that the talks will focus on bilateral political and economic relations – including cooperation on responding to the pandemic – and on regional issues, with emphasis on the European perspective of the Western Balkans.
Following their talks, the two Ministers of Foreign Affairs will sign three Memoranda of Cooperation and more specifically, in the field of Diplomatic Training, in the field of Civil Protection, as well as between Enterprise Greece and Invest North Macedonia.
Following the signing of memoranda, they will give statements to the press.
During the visit, FM Osmani is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis as well as with Alternate Minister for European Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis.
