The number of bars and restaurants not adhering to operating protocols has increased by 50 percent over the past week, compared to the week before. Inspectorates have said they will beef up controls during the New Year’s holidays.
“Let me use this opportunity to call on the citizens to observe the measures and celebrate responsibly with their families. Let’s refrain from big celebrations and gatherings. Inspections will carry out intensive controls in the field during the New Year’s holidays, for the purpose of preventing the virus spread and protect the people’s health,” Inspection Council President Magdalena Filipovska-Grashkovska told a press conference on Wednesday.
Over the past week, 13 bars and restaurants were closed, of which seven in Skopje, and two each in Gostivar, Tetovo and Struga, because they did not adhere to the working hours and the protocols related to the number of people sitting at one table.
Filipovska-Grashkovska said controls would take place on New Year’s Eve, upon reports for gatherings.
“Let me thank those who observe protocols and protective measures, but there are still some who fail to fathom the seriousness of the situation, jeopardizing public health through their selfish actions,” she added.
Inspectors would continue to conduct frequent controls and sanction those who fail to observe protocols, while urging citizens to report breaches.
