Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani will present Thursday a report on North Macedonia’s foreign policy and international standing at a session of the Parliament Foreign Policy Committee.
He is expected, among other things, to focus on the activities of the Macedonian diplomacy after the Bulgarian veto to the holding of the intergovernmental conference with the EU.
“Communication with Bulgaria is continuing and regardless of recent events, this should not affect the two countries in seeking a solution and overcoming this obstacle. I expect a solution and continued communication after the New Year’s holidays,” Osmani has stated.
Remarks or additional suggestions regarding the action plan are expected as intensive communication with Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry is under way, according to Vlado Buchkovski.
“The roadmap should be one of the tools to intensify the realization of the Friendship Treaty. I believe we should have some input after New Year, which would be a positive impulse and opportunity to reach compromise on the open issues ahead of the parliamentary elections there,” said the government’s special representative for Bulgaria.
According to him, the Macedonian team is proactive despite the disappointment. “Portugal’s EU Presidency is a new opportunity. I am convinced we will define the issues of highest priority in restoring trust ahead of the elections in Bulgaria,” added Buchkovski.
The government has reiterated that ideas are being exchanged as long as the differences with Bulgaria are settled.
“Some ten days ago the Government said, and the Government’s special representative too, that the document contains exchange of ideas that we put forward and will continue to put forward until we overcome issues and obstacles with Bulgaria that got on the way of our European integration, i.e. the next step which is the holding of the first intergovernmental conference,” government spokesman Dushko Arsovski said when asked why the government envoy hasn’t yet briefed the public on the non-paper he presented to Bulgarian officials after his visit to Sofia.
