Justice Minister Bojan Marichikj addressing conference on Tuesday said that the Law on Mediation is in the final stage of preparation.

Speaking at the conference “Benefits of mediation as an alternative method of dispute resolution,” Marichikj said that a working group has been formed to draft a legal solution that should overcome the problems identified so far during mediation procedures.

He said that the working group during preparation of the law, continued to follow up the European experiences of the Council of Europe and the European Union.

Marichikj also presented some of the novelties included in the new Law on Mediation as taking the mediation examination before a commission that will affect the creation of quality, professional and trained staff that will conduct successful mediation.

“The entry of all received requests for mediation in the register becomes mandatory as well as records on the further course of the procedure. The records proved to be extremely statistically useful that will enable the mediator to exercise the right to subsidies in the mediation procedures on the basis of the cases listed in the register,” Marichikj said.

He also said that the mediation as a way of resolving disputes refers also to the culture in the society for the purpose of overcoming the differences through dialogue, understanding and avoiding the stress and costs involved in court proceedings.
