Fight against corruption and crime, second session of CIVIL’s conference, with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Nikolovski
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The topic of the next session of the conference on human rights, justice and anti-corruption “Next stop: Europe” is the fight against corruption. Participants include Deputy Prime Minister in charge of fight against corruption and crime, Ljupco Nikolovski, political analyst and university professor Saso Ordanoski and university professor Jasna Bacovska.

What are the greatest challenges for our country in terms of crime and corruption? What has the new government department for combatting corruption and crime achieved, and what hasn’t it achieved in six months? Will this government win the battle against corruption? The European Parliament published a study on disinformation campaigns in the countries of the Western Balkans, which points out the names and last names of several current figures in politics and the media. Do the Macedonian institutions have the capacity to fight against hybrid attacks? What will be done politically, legally and social-wise in order to remedy the difficult consequences of the actions of these persons indicated in the Study… are some of the questions that the participants will try to answer in the second session of the Conference “Next stop – Europe”, titled “Fight against corruption and crime”.

“North Macedonia is in a delicate phase of its EU integration path. Both in the previous and current mandate, the government has showed openness to the public and civil society, and these days the government will mark 100 days of its new mandate. This conference will open the main questions in the area of law and justice, as well as the fight against corruption. At the same time, we will try with the conference to start a relevant public discussion on these issues, as opposed to the current daily political and narrow-party outsmarting on the social networks. These are topics that have to be discussed openly, with a strategic and professional approach, not with populism, typical for some of the political parties in the country” – states CIVIL’s organization team.

The event is organized within the framework of the Freedom Festival (November 25 – December 11), ahead of International Human Rights Day (December 10), and is organized by CIVIL. The period during which the festival is being held also includes International Day of Disabled Persons (December 3) and International Anti-Corruption Day (December 9).

The conference is part of the project “Europe is our home”, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Freedom Festival is a multimedia event within the framework of the “Civic Lenses” project, supported by National Endowment for Democracy (USA), as well as the Civica Mobilitas program, supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

The conference will be broadcast live on the Facebook page and YouTube video channel of CIVIL, which invites the media and all interested to follow it and to freely download content resulting from the conference.
