German Foreign Minister Heiko Mas, while awarding the 2020 Human Rights Award to Prime Minister Zoran Zaev in Berlin, said:”Dear Zoran, you have given hope to an entire generation that was tired of nationalism and a confrontational policy that was focused more on the past than the future. You became the leader of a national unity and connection with Europe. You strengthened the rule of law and fought for an independent judiciary, corruption, brought dignity… and that was the first step on the path to Europe. You are a source of hope in many unresolved conflicts in this world. I am honored to present the award to a reformer, a far-sighted politician and, above all, a European.”
