NEWS OF THE DAY: Committee debate on mandatory retirement at the age of 64 rescheduled for November 18

The Parliamentary Committee on Labour and Social Policy at which the amendments to the Law on Labour Relations were to be considered, which are to enable mandatory retirement at the age of 64 and 15 years of work, and that have been submitted by a group of MPs, was not held today as well. The session of the Committee has been rescheduled for November 18. The Committee debate on these legal changes was initially scheduled for yesterday, and then rescheduled for today.

According to analyses made by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, about 6,000 people will reach the retirement age of 64 by the end of the year. However, as the Ministry further clarified, that does not mean that according to the proposed legal changes that all of them will retire, because some of them have already requested continuation of their employment. These changes anticipate termination of employment contracts at the age of 64 and 15 years of work service, if not differently regulated by another law.
