Justice Minister Bojan Marichikj took part Monday in a video conference of justice ministers under the auspices of the Greek Chairmanship with the Council of Europe.
Minister Marichikj referred to the need of increasing trust of citizens in the judiciary, adding that enhanced openness and transparency of the courts and the prosecutor’s office are the key principles of reforms and his mission, the Ministry of Justice said in a press release.
Marichikj said North Macedonia remained committed to the reforms within Chapter 23-Judiciary and Fundamental Rights, in close coordination and partnership with Brussels and Strasbourg.
He noted that the country’s Euro-integration path has been unusually long, but the commitment to join the EU has been ever-present and strong.
“North Macedonia agreed to the new enlargement methodology and stronger partnership with the EU. We hope that historical issues will not be an obstacle for a better future of the country and the region,” said Marichikj.
The Justice Minister added that despite all turbulence, North Macedonia expects to open the EU accession negotiations, whereas close cooperation with EU institutions would be an added powerful incentive for deeper judiciary reforms, reads the press release.
