NEWS OF THE DAY: CIVIL organizes panel discussion on the topic “Discrimination and employment in the public and private sector”
CIVIL held a panel discussion on the topic “Discrimination and employment in the public and private sector”, held at Hotel City Park.
The panel was attended by Jovana Trencevska, Head of the Department for Gender Equality, Sector for Equal Opportunities at the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, Professor Mirjana Najcevska, human rights expert, Visar Ademi, economics expert, Lisa Bauta Shaqiri, author and lawyer and Ramush Muarem – Cirko, journalist, with Dehran Muratov from CIVIL as moderator. At the beginning of the panel discussion, Xhabir Deralla presented CIVIL’s views and initial recommendations on this topic.
“When the word discrimination is mentioned, it involves conditions and situations that affect a huge number of people, individuals and groups, communities and categories of citizens. Discrimination in the process of employment, both in the public and private sector, is the most direct and with long-term and difficult consequences in people’s lives. It is a much more frequent occurrence than people publically talk about”, stressed Deralla at the beginning of the panel.

CIVIL condemns police brutality and proposes measures for overcoming violent incidents
CIVIL once again strongly condemns the police brutality in the Bitola case, when police officers beat a member of the Roma community. At the same time, the more frequent attacks, both against members of the police and doctors and other official persons, are of concern.
CIVIL’s Green Caravan continues tomorrow with a workshop in Veles
CIVIL as part of the Green Caravan is organizing a workshop in the Municipality of Veles, tomorrow, October 1, in the premises of the Municipality building starting at 11.00 am.
The Mayor of the Municipality of Veles, Ace Kocevski, will take part, as well as representatives of the Council of the Municipality and institutions, civil society organizations, green initiatives, political parties, media and activists in the respective areas. Participation of no more than 20 participants is anticipated, in compliance to the COVID-19 protection measures.

Parliament today started the session at the agenda of which were the five decisions for declaring a state of emergency due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the debate on them did not start as the session was interrupted after the adoption of two decisions on forming and amending the composition of the parliamentary working bodies.
The government at yesterday’s session dismissed Robert Alagjovski from the position National Coordinator on development of culture and inter-agency cooperation and appointed him as National Coordinator on interculturalism, one society, development of culture and inter-agency cooperation, whereas Robert Popovski is appointed as national Coordinator on responsible governance and transparency.
The first intergovernmental conference is expected to be held by the end of the year.
