Does Macron know?

by: XHABIR DERALLA

Macron said that he has no answer before his fellow citizens when he will tell them that he has agreed for the two countries, North Macedonia and Albania, to start the negotiations.

That both of the countries have a series of problems, especially Albania, from where asylum seekers are coming in such a number that puts them in second place in his country. There’s no doubt that’s true. Probably Macron himself doesn’t know that well about all the problems the governments, institutions and the citizens of these two countries are facing.

Macron is right when he says we have to work harder in many sectors. Well, we are told this even louder and more directly also by other democratic countries, such as Germany, for example. And they’re helping us, with serious finances and expertise, for us to overcome the consequences of the 11-year rampage of the Family’s regime. And we thank them for that. The question is how much support are we receiving from the country whose president is Emmanuel Macron.

Macron is right also when he says that the process of EU membership needs to improve and become “reversible”, for the process to be able to be reversed and for the achieved results in reforms to be checked. Well, that’s an excellent idea! This can only help us, and the citizens, making the government and the institutions always alert and more responsible in terms of keeping their promise, while the reforms will be enduring, and not just cosmetic ones!

Macron is right for most of the things he said and has the support precisely of the citizens of the courageous and persevering North Macedonia. I believe that the same or similar feeling is prevailing in Albania. What is bizarre, let me use his expression, is that his argument is not convincing enough that the negotiations should not start now, before the procedures are revised. Those procedures can be improved in the next month or before the negotiations start (in January). They are inside, they can change the rules whenever they want, we are in front of the door, qualified even more than some countries that have been part of EU for a longer time, and we can’t prevent them from changing their criteria and procedures.

Macron is facing an outright majority of leaders and governments that have supported us and welcomed us in the process. We are not the reason for his opposing, rather the ambitions to strengthen France’s position in the EU, and after Angel Merkel leaves, for the new European leader to be precisely him, Emmanuel Macron.

Still, the French president should know that his fellow citizens will not even notice that the EU has started negotiations with two small countries, of which for one of them it is questionable whether it has a population of two million, while the other having three million.

Macron also surely knows quite well that for North Macedonia not getting a date, and probably also for Albania, will mean a political crisis, and most probably also an economic one, and even a security one. He surely knows that the “yellow vests” are not dealing with the issue of two dilapidated countries in the big 500+ million family (it’s about one percent of the EU population). I don’t want to go any further and remind him of changes in the French legislation that directly violate human rights, of the horrible conditions in the refugee camps, of the police overstepping official authority…

The French Number One also knows that the law on the PO has not been drafted and adopted because of the political structures that are linked to the organized crime in our country. The judicial reforms are also hindered by the same ones he is giving wings to with his opposing. These, on the other hand, are working off for super forces that have no good intentions for the Europe he wants to lead. His position is delicate, not to say bizarre – he could create much greater damage to Europe and France than he presumes. I have no doubt that he knows that as well. So, North Macedonia and Albania are not the issue. Something else is. It’s time to be European sincere and honest.
