NEWS OF THE DAY: STEFANOVA INTERROGATED FOR “RACKET” CASE

Today’s interrogation of SPO prosecutor Lile Stefanova by the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime, for the “Racket” case, lasted five hours.

“I am here today in the capacity of a witness, and I have told everything I know about this case before the competent public prosecutor. Having in consideration my status as a witness, and the secrecy of the investigation, I cannot give any other statement in regards to what I have said”, said Stefanova briefly and decided not to reply to journalist questions.

Stefanova is the second prosecutor to be interrogated for the “Racket” case, after her colleague Elizabeta Josifovska, who is Janeva’s replacement in the SPO, was also questioned yesterday.

DETENTION EXTENDED FOR FOUR EMPLOYEES IN UBK, WHO HAVE EMBEZZLED OVER 50 MILLION DENARS

The detention was extended today for the three employees in UBK accused that with their actions they have committed one act of abuse of power and authority, while one person is accused for assisting in committing the same act, announced the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

 

In the period between 25.01.2007 to 30.05.2017, in a total of 172 occasions for the needs of payment of funds for special purposes of UBK, from the Department of Finance within the MOI, the accused had taken money for which they had submitted claims for the amounts they had been taking.

With such actions, the accused had caused damage to the State Budget in a total amount of 50.670.000,00 dinars.

EIGHTEEN YEARS OF OHRID FRAMEWORK AGREEMENT

Eighteen years ago today, the Framework Agreement was signed, which put an end to the several months of conflict in the country in 2001.

The negotiations started in Skopje, and later continued in Ohrid, where they ended with the signing of the document on August 10. Three days later, on August 13, 2001, the Framework Agreement was signed in the Presidential Residence on Vodno in Skopje by then President of the State, Boris Trajkovski, the former President of VMRO-DPMNE and former Prime Minister Ljubco Georgievski, the President of PDP, Imer Imeri and then President of SDSM, Branko Crvenkovski and of DPA, Arben Xhaferi.

FINAL PREPARATIONS FOR THE SEMINAR “TRANSPARENCY AND RESPONSIBILITY IN THE POLITICAL PROCESSES”

CIVIL’s two-day seminar for strategic planning, education and building partnerships: “Transparency and responsibility in the political processes” starts tomorrow.

The seminar will be held on August 14 and 15, at Hotel Romantique, on the shores of the Veles Lake. Special guests of the seminar include the Head of the Anti-Corruption Commission Biljana Ivanovska, the finance expert and until recently Advisor to former minister Dragan Tevdovski, human rights activist Branimir Jovanovic, as well as the Mayor of Veles, Ace Kocevski.

The Government of the Republic of North Macedonia passed a decision for the establishment of an operational team, which through a coordinated approach will work uncompromisingly in the fight against crime and corruption, and which will be composed of the highest representatives of institutions and the executive branch.

Minister of Interior, Oliver Spasovski, today submitted a letter to the Anti-Corruption Commission and demanded for the case with the “Pin petrol” gas station, opened recently in Kumanovo, to be clarified and to determine his possible connection, for which he is being accused by the opposition VMRO-DPMNE.
