SPO

Following the decision of the Supreme Court that the SPO’s mandate of 18 months for initiating charges has expired, as well as that this prosecution cannot initiate new investigations, the judges from the Criminal Court in Skopje yesterday afternoon at a meeting decided to address the Republic Public Prosecutor, Ljubomir Joveski.

They will request for him to declare who is now competent for the SPO cases, whether Katica Janeva’s team or one of the regular prosecutor’s offices, and from Joveski it will also be required for him to initiate an initiative to the Parliament for an authentic interpretation to be made there of Article 22 of the Law on the SPO, for which last week the supreme judges made their statements.

Last week the supreme judges brought a general legal opinion in which they state that the SPO cannot initiate a charge or stop an investigation after the deadline of 18 months has expired after having taking over the “bombs”, a deadline that expired on July 1, 2017.

Elections

The President of the Assembly, Talat Xhaferi, stated that the presidential and early parliamentary elections cannot be conducted at the same time, if the parliamentary ones are to be implemented according to the model from the Przino Agreement, namely, that according to the agreement, there is no time for conducting parallel election processes.

 NATO

At the invitation of NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Macedonia, Nikola Dimitrov, will participate tomorrow in the meeting of the North Atlantic Council, on the occasion of the signing of the Accession Protocol for membership of the Republic of Macedonia in NATO, which will be held at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.

At the meeting, 29 member states, represented by their authorized Permanent Representatives to NATO, will sign the Protocol for the accession of the Republic of Macedonia to NATO. This process is followed by ratification of the Accession Protocol in the national parliaments of the NATO member states.

Following the signing of the Accession Protocol, the Republic of Macedonia will participate in all the NATO meetings, in the capacity of an invited country.

The competent Committee on national defense and foreign affairs of the Greek Parliament will review the protocol for Macedonia’s membership to NATO on Thursday, while voting will take place on Friday in the Greek Parliament.

Election monitoring of the media

Upon the request of the MPs for the obligation of the State Election Commission for performing monitoring of the electronic media during the election processes to be transferred under the competence of the Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services, the AJM responded with an announcement to the public and competent institutions.

“The Association of Journalists of Macedonia is responding to the latest amendments to the Law on Audio and Audiovisual Media Services and to the Electoral Code, which on February 4 were adopted in shortened procedure by the Parliament, without the journalistic community being consulted. The Amendments of the Law on Audio and Audiovisual Media Services that refer to Article 102 in the part of banning of advertising, give public institutions at the central and local level the possibility to continue financing the broadcasters, if they have signed contracts for cooperation with them that are valid even after this law enters into force. This leaves room for this Article of the Law to be abused easily and for public funds to be paid also in the future to the media, despite the declarative ban on them”, is said, among else, in the announcement of the AJM.
