Prespa Agreement

This week the Prespa Agreement is expected to be ratified by Greece, which will put an end to the 27-year name dispute with Macedonia. Matthew Nimetz, UN Special Representative in the talks between Skopje and Athens, in regards to the name issue, stated that he is eagerly awaiting the conclusion of the process as it is stipulated in the Agreement.

April 27

Today the trial for the events that took place on April 27, 2017 in the Parliament of Republic of Macedonia continued in the Criminal Court in Skopje, against the accused who remain unpardoned.

The court process is in the final phase, and at today’s hearing Prosecutor Vilma Ruskoska is expected to make a change in the indictment according to the Law on amnesty, and to start with the closing statements.

Elections

Minister of Defense, Radmila Sekerinska, at a joint press conference with Slovenian Minister of Defense, Karl Erjavec, today stated that this week serious talks are expected, both within the ruling coalition and in SDSM, as to whether there will be early parliamentary elections together with the presidential ones, and also about the presidential candidates.

Measures

Due to the enormous pollution, the Government of the Republic of Macedonia has tasked all the state administration bodies, agencies, funds, bureaus, institutes, public enterprises and state-owned holding companies, as well as the units of local self-government, to reduce (up to 50%) the use of official vehicles, as well as to limit the work on construction sites.

The Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning in cooperation with the Ministry of Health were obliged to recommend all legal entities (employers) to excuse from work pregnant women, people over the age of 60 and people with chronic asthma and survivors of myocardial heart attack or stroke, regardless of the age, with a recommendation of the family doctor. Furthermore, the Ministry of Health should provide conditions for increased activities of the emergency medical services, medical home visits and the patronage service.

The Public Transportation Enterprise – Skopje announced that according to the measures for reducing the air pollution, the use of public transportation will be free, and the citizens will be duly informed as to when the decision for free transportation will be cancelled.

Deinstitutionalization continues

The Ministry of Labor and Social Policy together with UNICEF Representative Benjamin Perks, visited the children who have recently been accommodated in one of the small group homes in Skopje. According to information of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, there are no more children in the Orphans Home “October 11”, nor in the Orphans Home “May 25”. Until the end of last year, all the children up to the age of 18 were taken out of the Special Institute “Demir Kapija” and were placed in small group homes where they received 24-hour supervision and individualized programs and defectology treatment.
