“The biggest question that lies ahead of us in the coming period, especially in terms of the European perspectives, is the anticipated referendum, which I hope and believe there will be one. I also believe that it will be an issue that will further continue to cause disagreements and confrontations in the society. That is why our role, both of MCIC and CIVIL, is to open this debate and to openly and in an argumentative manner debate about the advantages and flaws of the agreement itself, stated Aleksandar Krzalovski from MCIC, at yesterday’s Conference “Macedonian Perspectives: How To Get To Europe?”.

It is clear that the citizens of Republic of Macedonia are undoubtedly for the European Union and NATO. The lowest confidence in the past period has been 66%, while the highest has reached up to 92%. There is no dilemma here that Macedonia’s place and path are towards the European Union. Our last survey on the name issue, before the Agreement, indicated that 48% of the citizens were not in favor of any changes, and that only around 14% were for what is being offered now as a solution. Therefore, I wish the Prime Minister a tireless and hot summer in convincing the citizens in what should be the decision of the referendum, so that we can open the road to the European perspectives.

There will be many questions afterwards, but I think that naturally, this question will overshadow everything else until that threshold is passed”, said Krzalovski.

The conference is part of the project “Free Media For A free Society” that CIVIL is implementing with the support of the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany.
