Following CIVIL’s reaction, the online registry of pedophiles is once again functioning. We did not manage to find out the reasons for its nonfunctioning.
From the information we received, the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights had reacted in regards to the existence of this registry.
The Executive Director of the Helsinki Committee, Uranija Pirovska, confirmed the information, who in a statement for CIVIL Media says that they had reacted, but that they do not know the reasons for the closing of the registry.
“Our reaction was in the sense that the names of the persons convicted of pedophilia should not be publically published, as they are endangering the safety of their families”, says Pirovska.
This is not the first time for the registry of pedophiles to start functioning following a reaction of the media. Such is the case from 2017 when a journalist from TV21 published a story after which the website started working again, but only for a short time.
We hope that this practice will not continue in the future.
The registry has been existing since 2012 and is coordinated by the Ministry of Labor and Social Justice and managed by the Public Institute for Social Activities. This list enables access to information on persons convicted of pedophilia.
