Goranco Savovski, State Advisor in the Public Security Bureau, has been appointed as the new coordinator of the Operational Headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, replacing Mitko Cavkov who, with a proposal of Minister Agim Nuhiu to the Government, should be dismissed from the position Director of the Public Security Bureau! Minister Nuhiu made such a move following the events of last Thursday, after numerous facts were confirmed that part of MOI’s structures are involved in the bloody violence against the MPs of the parliamentary majority and in the attack on the highest legislative body of Republic of Macedonia.
“What happened in Parliament on Thursday is a great misfortune. Much time and efforts will be needed to fix this damage, not only from the services of MOI, but also from other institutions, such as the Public Prosecution and the judiciary. I urge and encourage the employees in the MOI, for all of us to be side by side, and for them to continue doing their jobs professionally. The MOI needs professionals, which in the future will be the pillar of this institution”, stated Minister Nuhiu at today’s press conference in the MOI.
Minister Nuhiu, as he said, has formed a working group composed of professionals in the MOI, with the task of determining whether the Operational Headquarters and organizational units of the MOI have acted according to the established procedures prescribed in the MOI, for the flaws, overstepping of authority or for not fulfilling the work duties and obligations.
“The conclusions of the report of the working group will be part of the information to the Public Prosecution on the further action in regards to the work of the Operational Headquarters. I urge all employees in the MOI to engage actively and to submit official materials concerning the events last Thursday in Parliament. There is no turning back! Matters must be cleared to the end and everyone will be held responsible for their actions”, said Nuhiu.
He pointed out to the role of objective and professional media in the process of informing the public about the events that took place last Thursday.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the media and hope that with their professional reporting they will continue to give their contribution to the democracy in Republic of Macedonia”, said Nuhiu at today’s press conference.
Following last Thursday’s brutal events, the Minister announced his resignation as a moral act, due to the MOI’s flaws in the work. He pointed his finger to Cavkov, who as he said, both as a coordinator of MOI’s Operational Headquarters, formed immediately after the protests of “For a Joint Macedonia”, and as a Director of the Public Security Bureau, had not responded to the telephone calls, nor was at work an hour after the start of the violence against the MP’s and the vandalism in Parliament.
Nuhiu promised that before his resignation, he would allow a peaceful transfer of the old and new government.
