Prime Minister Zoran Zaev today following a journalist question from TV21 as to whether refugees from Afghanistan will be accommodated in North Macedonia and if there is any request from our country’s allies, outlined that they as a government have informed the United states that they are available to help.
“Afghanistan is facing a possible humanitarian disaster and that is why we as a government have informed our strategic partner the United States that we are available to assist in accordance to our capacities and needs. With the purpose of saving the lives of the local population, we informed that we are ready to take in and accept civilian population from Afghanistan, which these past 20 years worked for peace in that country, was local support to the NATO ally forces, including our army, as well as to take in and accept activists from democratic humanitarian organizations and from human rights organizations in Afghanistan.
We are prepared to provide accommodation in hotels and resorts, while the operations and costs during their stay, until providing a final destination, would be fully covered by the US.
We are a country of solidarity, our people and our society have always given support and assistance, just as we have received assistance in huge disasters”, pointed out Zaev.
Currently, in Afghanistan we have about a hundred Macedonian citizens with whom communication has been established. Friendly countries have expressed readiness for eventual organized evacuation flights to be available also for the citizens of North Macedonia, reported TV21.
