If the historical Prespa Agreement teaches us anything, it is that it is time to make history in the Balkans instead of being trapped by it, SYRIZA leader and former Greek PM Alexis Tsipras wrote on Twitter on receiving 2020 Hessian Peace Prize along with Macedonian PM Zoran Zaev, MIA’s Athens correspondent reports.
“It is an honor to receive the Hessian Peace Prize and share it with a friend Zoran Zaev. I hope it gives strength to the people of North Macedonia to continue fighting for their well deserved and long awaited European future. If the historical Prespa Agreement teaches us anything, it is that it is time to make history in the Balkans instead of being trapped by it,” Tsipras tweeted.
Boris Rhein, Parliament President of the German state of Hesse, presented Monday the 2020 Hessian Peace Prize to Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and former Greek PM Alexis Tsipras. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the peace prize of the Albert Osswald Foundation was presented at an online ceremony.
The Hessian Peace Prize was founded on 16 October 1993 by the former Prime Minister of the state of Hesse, Albert Osswald, and his foundation. The Hessian Peace Prize is awarded to individuals who have rendered outstanding service to furthering mutual understanding among nations and peace.
