The Secretary will demand more weapons for Ukraine and more sanctions against Russia.
“Russia’s aggression cannot be appeased. It must be met with strength. We must not allow a prolonged and increasingly painful conflict to develop in Ukraine,” Truss said, the Telegraph reports, citing the UK’s Foreign Office.
Truss believes that the West must learn the lessons of history after Russia’s president had pocketed concessions before his invasions of Georgia, Crimea and Donbas.
“We must be relentless in ensuring Ukraine prevails through military aid and sanctions. We can’t take our foot off the accelerator now,” the British Foreign Secretary stressed.
Yesterday, Italy, Hungary and Cyprus urged the EU to call for a ceasefire in Ukraine and peace talks with Russia, putting themselves at odds with other member states determined to take a hard line with Moscow ahead of a summit next week.
