A group of four journalists from Afghanistan, to whom Northern Macedonia provided temporary residence until departure to a third country at the request of the International Organization of Journalists and the Independent Trade Union of Journalists and Media Workers, arrived at Skopje International Airport this morning.
According to the government press service, these are TV and radio journalists who worked for local media and correspondents for foreign media outlets, and after the fall of the democratic government, received death threats from the Taliban.
After the landing, the standard procedure was performed – security check, protection and PCR test and the persons will be temporarily accommodated in Skopje, and the costs are fully covered by the organization Journalists for Human Rights.
There are currently 534 citizens of Afghanistan residing in the country for whom the institutions provide and provide the necessary support and assistance, while 85 citizens have left Northern Macedonia so far, providing permanent residency to France, Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Brazil and the United States.
