According to the announcements and plans of the new prime minister Oliver Spasovski, Minister of Interior, remains in office.
– This Government has full legitimacy and the MPs face all the possibilities. Of course, I expect a debate and such a debate is welcome, says Spasovski.
He says that there was a debate in SDSM about the personnel policy of the prime minister-designate Dimitar Kovacevski after rumors that Petre Shilegov was against Spasovski remaining in office. Spasovski says that at the Central Board of the party this proposed composition passed unanimously and without any abstentions.
Several ministers who will no longer be ministers did not attend the meeting of the Central Committee and that is interpreted as a political expression, but Spasovski says that the reasons for their absence were justified and announced in advance.
– The democratic capacity of SDSM is at a high level and we have shown that on many occasions, says Spasovski.
After the resignation of Zoran Zaev which no one expected, and he and his party leader Kovacevski called for unification. Spasovski says that it is normal to have different opinions, and announced congress which will discuss the election results and the consolidation of the party.
– Democracy and Macedonia as a democratic society can only be upgraded. There is no other way. It is not the same as in 2016. There is democracy, but far from it should not be discussed. “I can not support the option of business governance overlapping democratic governance,” Spasovski said.
He adds that in the past it was important to raise the fight against corruption to a higher level. However, the mechanisms for that are not with the Deputy Prime Minister but with the institutions and that requires coordination because it always gives better results.
– We in the Ministry of Interior have created a national center for combating organized crime in which representatives of all institutions dealing with this issue participate. This body also gave results, and we constantly send reports to the EU on that, says Spasovski.
There is an impression that there is a spasm in corruption and it comes down to public relations rather than a concrete fight against it.
– A joint strategy for the fight against crime is very important to be done and I have talked about that personally with the EU Commissioner for Interior. We inform the public about every deed we have discovered, but it is obvious that this is not enough for the public. We need to give a summary report. For example, in 2020 we have the best results in the last 30 years, says Spasovski.
Of course, there are problems that we need to address more, says Spasovski. For example, until 2017 there was no financial investigation and confiscation of property. “Second, cybercrime has been set aside and we need to focus on that, and migration and terrorism need to be more in focus,” he said. Spasovski behind Morning briefing.
Part of the public is wondering how it is possible that no crime was discovered in the coalition partner of SDSM from the Albanian bloc, DUI.
– I think we should completely remove all the cases that were filed against DUI officials. We had proceedings against directors and other officials, says Spasovski. He added that none of the ministers who will not be in the new government are linked to crime, nor is that a reason for their removal.
Regarding Prime Minister-designate Dimitar Kovacevski, Spasovski says that they have known each other for a long time and have private relations, but that can not be related to the work in the government.
