State Statistical Office head Apostol Simovski held a working meeting Wednesday afternoon with Emigration Agency director Slobodan Bliznakovski, focused on current activities regarding the headcount of North Macedonia’s diaspora.
The self-enumeration of the diaspora started on March 1, and is set to end April 21.
Until Wednesday morning, the government said in a press release, 137,111 members of the diaspora had filled out online surveys via the census app, as part of North Macedonia’s Population and Housing Census 2021, of which 7,102 in the past 24 hours.
Simovski and Bliznakovski expressed at the meeting satisfaction over the turnout and hopes that this number will continue to increase.
The State Statistical Office and the Emigration Agency, the press release read, are constantly communicating with diaspora members and are always at their disposal.
“The two directors reiterated the importance of Macedonian nationals living abroad for over a year taking part in the census. That way, they have a chance to become part of the database of non-residents, information the country needs to properly plan and improve services offered by diplomatic and consular offices, as well as to promote national policies,” the press release noted.
Simovski and Bliznakovski urged all social stakeholders to call on the diaspora to use this opportunity and take part in the process in large numbers.
