Everyone has a right to dignified life regardless of their age, gender, race and ethnicity, Minister of Labor and Social Policy Jagoda Shahpaska said Monday in a video message on the occasion of March 1 – Zero Discrimination Day.
She stressed that the government and the Labor Ministry have made significant progress in the fight against discrimination.
“Through open debate we adopted the Law on Prevention and Protection from Discrimination, which clearly defines discrimination grounds in line with international conventions and European regulations. For the first time, gender and sexual orientation have been specified as the types of discrimination,” Shahpaska said.
Moreover, the Minister pointed out the transparent process of electing members of the Commission for Prevention and Protection from Discrimination, which has been tasked to work efficiently, objectively and independently, in the best interest of citizens.
“We’re building an equal society for all, guided by the fact that everyone has a right to dignified life regardless of their age, gender, race and ethnicity. Every person is different and has freedom of choice. It’s differences that make society beautiful,” the Labor Minister said in the video message.
