Sashko Nikolov is the new mayor of Shtip, with a mandate of nine months, up until the regular local elections in 2021.

The State Election Commission officially announced the results from the polling stations at around one o’clock. 14,240 citizens voted in the mayoral elections. 79 out of a total of 81 polling stations were processed, including polling stations in penitentiary institutions. 14,077 citizens voted at these polling stations, of which 11,435 for the SDSM candidate, Sashko Nikolov or 80.30% of the voters, 1,173 or 8, 24% voted for Simon Polikarp, Integra candidate. 805 or 5.65% ballots were invalid.

Nikolov, who was SDSM’s candidate for mayor, declared victory in these elections two hours after the closing of the polls. At the press conference in the headquarters on the City Square “Sloboda”, the leader of SDSM, Zoran Zaev, the general secretary of SDSM, Ljupcho Nikolovski and the former mayor of Stip and member of the Executive Board of SDSM, Blagoj Bochvarski, were the first to congratulate him.

-In this time of pandemic Shtip and the citizens of Shtip have shown democracy, social responsibility and that it will continue on the path of Europe, on the path in safe hands, said Sashko Nikolov, announcing the victory of yesterday’s elections for mayor of Shtip. He assessed that yesterday the citizens of Shtip demonstrated responsibility and European politics.

-Despite all the obstructions that we had during this pre-election silence, our fellow citizens today hand in hand voted for the future mayor of Shtip and voted that Shtip continues on the democratic path for a European, open and safe city for all our children, said Nikolovski.

My fellow citizens, said Nikolovski, today gave me an obligation that I personally undertake to prepare the city for the challenges that come before us. That is equality, that is care, that is support for every single citizen in our municipality.

The Prime Minister and leader of SDSM, Zoran Zaev wishes Nikolov a successful mandate and successful realization of all planned projects, emphasizing that there is no doubt that he will invest all his potential to help his hometown and work for the good of all his fellow citizens.
