“In the time of the previous ruling structure, nationalism was at a higher level, both at the local and national level. There still is nationalism, but we are trying for it to be marginalized or at least ignored”, says activist Dejan Ristov from Veles.
As to if the state cares enough for the environment, Ristov says that this government is, nevertheless, doing something for a healthy environment, but that it’s not enough.
“I think much more can be done and that there is never enough healthy environment”, adds Ristov.
In terms of the question is there social justice in the country, Ristov says that with the latest adopted laws there are positive changes, such as the increase of social assistance, but adds that much more needs to be done for Macedonia to finally become a real welfare state.
