Former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe is dead, after he succumbed to his injuries after being shot during an election campaign event, according to media reports, writes MIA.
Abe was shot twice in the street by a former member of the Japanese Self-Defence Forces while giving an election campaign speech in the city of Nara.
After being detained, the alleged perpetrator said he acted because he was “dissatisfied” with the former leader, according to a Japanese news report.
