Reconciliation or pardoning in sight on the political scene?

Post-referendum uncertainty: elections, yes or no?

The day, in the context of the constitutional changes and the government’s efforts for reconciliation with the opposition, was marked with VMRO-DPMNE’s resistance and their demand for amnesty of those accused for the events on April 27, 2017.

In the meanwhile, a committee on reconciliation is also being formed from the Parliament, upon the initiative of the eight opposition MPs who gave their support last Friday and voted on starting the process for constitutional changes.

From information so far, the committee on reconciliation will probably be led by the President of Parliament, Talat Xhaferi, but the position of the parliamentary group of the opposition VMRO-DPMNE is still being waited on. This was one of the conclusions at yesterday’s meeting of the coordinators of the parliamentary groups with the President of Parliament, Xhaferi, the first following the voting on the constitutional changes on Friday.

The MPs from the “Besa” movement today submitted a request to the Government with four proposals for draft amendments for constitutional changes. They proposed changes in the section of the preamble, they request for the proposal that was adopted by the signatories to the Framework Agreement in 2001 to be returned, where Macedonia is defined as an equal state for all citizens. They also request for Amendment V, item 1, paragraph 1 of the Constitution of Republic of Macedonia to be reformulated in the following manner: The

official language throughout the Republic of Macedonia and in the international relations of Republic of Macedonia is the Macedonian language and its Cyrillic alphabet, as well as the Albanian language and its Latin alphabet. The MPs are also demanding for Article 49 of the Constitution of Republic of Macedonia to be further clarified in the direction that Republic of Macedonia cares for its citizens who live outside the territory of Republic of Macedonia, equally for all ethnic communities. They have also demanded reformulating of Article 75, paragraphs 3 and 4, in such a way that the president of the state is not allowed to block the laws that have been adopted after the second voting in the Parliament of RM, that is, to acquire constitutional competencies that do not belong to him.

In several media, there have been headlines that head Sulejman Rexhepi on behalf of the Islamic Religious Community of Macedonia supports the king of Saudi Arabia in the case with the murdered Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the consulate of this country in Turkey. From the Islamic Religious Community they stated for CIVIL Media that several days ago they had sent a letter of support to Saudi Arabia, in which they only support the concern and protection of Mecca and Medina, the sacred Islamic places, which are Qibla (the direction in the world where Kaaba is in Mecca, and which the Muslims face when kneeling to pray), for all Muslims believers. But that support, they say from the Islamic Religious Community, has nothing to do with journalist Khashoggi and with the latest developments, as their institution is religious and does not deal with issues of other spheres.

CIVIL – Center for Freedom announced the conference #ActionIntegration, dedicated to European values, green alternatives and anti-nationalism, on October 30 (Tuesday), at Opera House Hotel (behind the University Library) in Skopje, starting at 2.00 pm. At the conference, the results of the project Action – Integration that CIVIL is implementing in partnership with the Heinrich Bὅll Foundation from Germany will be presented. Relevant representatives of central and local authorities, civil society organizations, green initiatives, political parties, the media, activists and interested citizens are invited to the event.
