I urge the State Election Commission (SEC) to open a swift procedure for the procurement of fingerprint scanners for voter verification, as provided for by the law, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said Thursday in response to a reporter’s question.
“We’ll take all necessary steps in terms of procurement. The Finance Minister took concrete steps – there are funds in the budget , and there’s the revised budget. We issued a written approval from the Finance Ministry, so that the SEC can open a procedure for the procurement of fingerprint scanners,” Zaev said.
He believes this will be done in time for the local elections, seeing that there are about eight months left and given modern European technologies.
“This can boost voters’ trust in the election process, which is very important. Voting is the pinnacle of democracy. I urge the SEC, and all government services are available, to insist on swift procurement,” said Zaev.
