Prime Minister Zoran Zaev met with the United States Ambassador to Greece, Geoffrey Pyatt, at the sidelines of ‘The Economist’ conference in Athens.
Talks focused on energy and economic initiatives.
Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Fatmir Bytyqi, and Economy Minister, Kreshnik Bekteshi, also attended the meeting, the Government said in a press release.
Zaev extended gratitude for the overall support that North Macedonia receives from the United States in continuity, adding that the signing of the gas interconnector agreement on Friday is historic for North Macedonia seeing that the country for the first time is investing in Greece in such a strategic project for the entire region.
“In addition, PM Zaev briefed Ambassador Pyatt on the current political and economic processes in North Macedonia, extending gratitude for his focus on projects in the country and the entire Western Balkans,” reads the press release.
Ambassador Pyatt expressed strong commitment to boost the strategic partnership, noting that the signing of the agreement on Friday is of major importance both for North Macedonia and for Greece and the United States.
Participants in the meeting also discussed the excellent cooperation in defense and the NATO partnership, as well as the recent joint military exercise including US, Macedonian, Greek and Bulgarian troops.
Ambassador Pyatt underlined that PM Zaev’s visits to Athens are important and give a positive impetus to strengthening cooperation between the two countries, the press release reads.
