The gross violation of international law is a threat to civilization, says President Stevo Pendarovski for CIVIL Media in regards to the recognition of the Donbas and Luhansk regions and the order for direct Russian military intervention against Ukraine.
President Pendarovski expresses strong support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. He adds that an order based on international law is the basis for international relations, whose principles must be respected.
On the occasion of Russia’s invasion on Ukraine, President Pendarovski expresses strong condemnation for Russia’s military actions against Ukraine, which inevitably will lead to overwhelming loss of human lives and material damage.
“Russia’s invasion on Ukraine is an attack on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, a serious violation of the basic principles of international law, a hit on the democratic order and a threat to the stability of Europe. As a NATO member, we join the call of the Alliance directed towards Russia to stop the military actions on the territory of Ukraine.
On behalf of the citizens of North Macedonia, I express solidarity with the Ukrainian people in these difficult times”, said Pendarovski.
In regards to the question of CIVIL Media as to how the military escalation in Ukraine will affect the economic and social-political situation and processes in North Macedonia and the Western Balkan countries, we inform that the Cabinet of the President is in communication with the competent institutions in the country and within NATO on the possible scenarios that are currently being developed depending on the situation on the ground, and which refer to the economic and political-security implications from the escalation of the situation between Russia and Ukraine.
