On the sidelines of the global security forum “GLOBSEC 2021”, taking place in Bratislava on Wednesday, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bujar Osmani held a meeting with Slovenian counterpart Anže Logar who assured him that the Western Balkans will be an important issue for Slovenia’s upcoming EU Presidency.
Logar, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release, underlined during the meeting that the Western Balkans Summit will be the key issue at informal and top political discussions, placing the region on the top of EU’s agenda.
Interlocutors agreed that this topic has strategic importance for the EU, Slovenia and the region.
They also discussed at the meeting, the press release read, the development and potential of bilateral relations, but focused especially on North Macedonia’s European agenda, ongoing talks over the country’s negotiating framework, as well as expectations for holding the first intergovernmental conference during Portugal’s EU Presidency.
“Due to the fact that Slovenia is set to take over the EU Council Presidency next month, the meeting focused on its top priorities and especially EU enlargement, which is high on its agenda,” the press release added.
The two ministers will also address on Wednesday the same “GLOBSEC 2021” session “Geopolitical Europe at Crossroads: Western Balkans in the Post-COVID-19 Era”.
