DAILY BRIEF October 4: Pompeo and warnings about external influence, Racket, census and strong condemnations for hate speech…


President Stevo Pendarovski and Prime Minister Zoran Zaev today in Ohrid met with US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo.

Pompeo, in addition to being satisfied with the reception of the state top officials of the RNM, also highlighted that the US will continue supporting the country, but warned that we need to be wary of the Russian and Chinese influence.

Pompeo considers that increased US support is necessary in the upcoming period, especially since North Macedonia is expected to become the 30th member of NATO and start accession negotiations for membership in the European Union.

In terms of the bilateral meeting between Zaev and Pompeo, which was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Radmila Sekerinska, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs, Bujar Osmani, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Dimitrov, issues were discussed regarding stabilization and prosperity of the region with Washington as the main promotor of the enlargement policy of the Alliance with the Adriatic Charter member countries.


Katica Janeva for now remains in custody, as one of the suspects in the “Racket” case. The Court of Appeals will additionally decide upon a new appeal for the rejected guarantee for termination of the custody or replacing it with house custody. Previously, the guarantee was overruled, and there was an appeal for that decision as well on September 26, but the case could not be decided on as it was in the Court of Appeals on the appeal of the Criminal Council.

At the same time, the request of Bojan Jovanovski – Boki 13 has been rejected for termination of his detention. After reviewing the appeal, the Court of Appeals ruled that there is still danger of him fleeing, as well as repeating the act.

And as for Orce Kamcev, part of the “Racket” case, who gave Boki 13 and Zoran Mileski Kiceec 1.5 million euros to save him from criminal prosecution for the SPO case “Empire”, his temporary passport expires in November. Kamcev requested the temporary passport because of his urgent business trips and compulsory education.


Minister of Justice, Renata Deskoska, participated in a high-level Conference: “It’s all about Justice” in Tirana, pointing out that it is fair to open negotiations for the RNM, having in consideration that from a captured country it has become a country with a clear recommendation.

The Government welcomed the request of the EU leaders for start of the negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania.

The Director of the State Statistical Office, Apostol Simovski, today expressed hope that the political parties and MPs will find understanding and time to dedicate themselves to adopting the law on implementing the census as soon as possible, because this operation, as he says, is of extreme significance for the country and all the citizens.

The statement of the head of the Islamic Religious Community, Sulejman Rexhepi, where in a journalist question about the ultimatum that Skender Buzaku made for resignation of the position he replies that in the Islamic Religious Community there is no place for “gays” and that they should be outside of it, caused strong condemnations by the LGBTI activists.
