A total of 13,742 smears were analyzed in labs equipped to detect SARS-CoV-2 from Jan. 25 until Jan. 31, shows a weekly report of the Institute of Public Health.
It is an increase of 24.5% compared to the previous week, the Ministry of Health said Tuesday.
A total of 2,036 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in 33 cities and towns across the country, which is an increase of 17.9% compared to the previous week. Most COVID-19 positive cases were reported in Skopje (48.3%).
The percent of positive cases was between 9 to 18% in the reporting period, which registers an average of 14%, same as the previous week.
Cases of COVID-19 infections were reported in all age groups, shows the report. With 26.5%, people over 60 make up most of the cases. Infections were also registered among people in the age group of 40-49 (18.1%), 50-59 (17.9%), 30-39 (18.4%), and 20-29 (12.3%). Very few cases are registered in children aged 0-9 (2%), and 10-19 (4.8%).
Also, 2,977 recoveries were reported, which is 41.4% less than the week before.
During the reporting period, 64 fatalities in 18 cities were registered, a 7.2% decrease compared to the previous week. Of those, 55 people were over 60, six were aged 50-59, and three people were aged 40-49.
