Macedonian language today is recognized all around the world, its distinctiveness is included in our country’s ID, in the great family of nations and member countries of the UN. Macedonian, being equal with all international languages, is used freely worldwide, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said Tuesday.
In an opening address at the international conference of scholars on Macedonian language, Zaev said that such events were conveying ‘a strong message of fostering, protection and promotion, affirmation and support of the use of Macedonian language’.
The government, he stressed, is committed to promoting Macedonian language.
The PM mentioned that the government has declared May 5 Macedonian Language Day, the orthography was made universally available with the development of electronic orthography, an initiative has been launched to amend the law on the use of Macedonian language all the while supporting publishing activity of the Krste Misirkov Macedonian Language Institute and the production of books through the Ministry of Culture.”
“As long as there is Macedonian language, there will be Macedonians. As long as there are Macedonians, Macedonian language will exist – one cannot exist without the other. They have existed and will exist in a beautiful and unbreakable symbiosis,” PM Zaev said.
Our priority, he reiterated, is to support the development and affirmation of the Macedonian language in order to constantly invest in our national and cultural identity in the future.
The international conference of scholars on the Macedonian language coincides with the 75th anniversary of the codification of modern Macedonian language.
Institute’s director Elena Jovanova-Grujovska handed over certificates of appreciation for ‘moral and financial support’ of the Krste Misirkov Macedonian Language Institute.
Furthermore, the event was part of the annual Open Days of the Krste Misirkov Institute, which has brought together more than 40 participants.
