“The essence of the SPO was to have all the cases that were actually opened by them processed, and with all these political developments in this situation, there was certain success in that intention of saving the cases, let me be more specific, VMRO-DPMNE did not succeed in their intention to pardon the criminals from among their lines, with the purpose for the SPO cases to fail. There is certainty of the cases, that is the essence of the rule of law, that everyone who has violated the law will be held responsible”, stated SDSM spokesperson Kostadin Kostadinov for CIVIL Media.
Regarding the question whether the government will try again with VMRO-DPMNE to find a solution about the new law on the public prosecutor’s office, having in consideration the latest disagreements at the leaders’ meeting, Kostadinov says that, unfortunately, we have a situation where the biggest opposition party is trying in every way possible to save the criminals from among its lines, and that it is knowingly abusing the trust they have received from the citizens in the capacity of mandates in Parliament.
“I expect that we can find a solution, to discuss what holds as a remark within the law. Actually, it is already in parliamentary procedure, in the Committee on European Affairs, the law on public prosecutor’s office… Some of the amendments from the parliamentary groups have already been accepted, I expect within the framework of a democratic discussion, transparent one, to come to a solution also with VMRO-DPMNE”, adds Kostadinov.
Kostadinov says that they had been giving a chance until the last minute for something to encourage Hristijan Mickoski and VMRO-DPMNE in order to finally distance themselves from what an agenda for amnesty of criminals means and to finally stand in the capacity of the state.
He says that if the government and the opposition do not succeed to agree on the law on public prosecutor’s office, that it would not affect the country’s Euro-Atlantic integrations.
“This does not affect our integration, but it is good before the European Union, after all the successful processes that we overcame, such as the dispute with Greece, what is left for us at home that we cannot agree on? We really need to free ourselves from the chains of narrow party, internal interests and truly show to the citizens that we are responsible politicians and that we really do have the goal of putting ourselves in the function of the state”, adds Kostadinov.
“We had a situation where VMRO-DPMNE was demanding a new prosecutor’s office. Zaev offers a new prosecutor’s office that will literally open all investigations, cases and also cases from a while ago, however, the state Public Prosecutor’s office should continue both the new cases and certainly also the cases of the SPO, in the constellation in which it is. Neither we or VMRO-DPMNE will elect a prosecutor, and in this area we need to be particularly cautious, not to disrupt the course of the cases that are already opened, part of them are in pre-trial, part in investigative procedure, and part in a final court procedure.
We are expecting the cases to finally be resolved because the citizens are hungry for justice”, says Kostadinov.
