Former Prime Minister of Macedonia, Nikola Gruevski, today on his Facebook profile announced that these past days he had been receiving threats against his life and that he has left for Budapest, where he has sought asylum from the Hungarian authorities.
“I will always remain faithful to the Macedonian cause. I will never give up”, wrote Gruevski.
The Ministry of Interior and the Criminal Court are waiting for the information that Gruevski is in Budapest to be confirmed, after which they will issue an order for issuing an international arrest warrant.
Minister of Interior, Oliver Spasovski, previously today stated that he does not feel responsible for Gruevski’s escape and that responsibility should be sought in the court, which did not order detention.
The Special Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that within the framework of the investigation “Empire”, the court has brought decisions for determining a temporary measure of taking away part of the real estate assets in order to secure the legal entities DPTU Orka Holding AD Skopje and DPTU Eksiko DOOEL Skopje, and decisions for temporarily stopping the outflow of cash from the bank accounts of the legal entities DPTU Eksiko DOOEL Skopje and DPTUU Timoh export import DOO Skopje.
“Currently, from the evidence that this Public Prosecution has available, it seems that damage has been caused to the Budget of the Republic of Macedonia in the amount of at least 6.275.280 euros, and that money have been laundered in the amount of 10.939.938 euros as well.
CIVIL – Center for Freedom is organizing a panel discussion on identity and political issues related with the process of overcoming the Macedonian- Greek name dispute.
