The current President of the Skopje Basic Criminal Court, Ivan Dzolev, by a decision of the Judicial Council today has been appointed acting President of the Criminal Court Skopje.
Judge Dzolev, as stated by the spokesperson of the Judicial Council, Ljubisa Arsic, was appointed to this duty due to the continuity of work and because the Court under his leadership is on the list of up-to-date courts.
Arsic pointed out that in the near future an announcement will be published for the election of the President of the Basic Criminal Court – Skopje, as well as three other basic courts – Tetovo, Kumanovo and Resen.
He also pointed out that in the case of appointing an acting President of the Basic Criminal Court, the Judicial Council acted in accordance with Article 89 of the Law on Courts.
– In case of dismissal or termination of the mandate of the President of the Court, until the election of a new President of the Court, the Judicial Council of the Republic of Northern Macedonia appoints an acting President of the Court from among the judges in the court. In relation to the other judges, he has received the highest number of points, said Arsic and pointed out that the Judicial Council did not elect a president, but appointed, in accordance with the law, an acting president of the Basic Criminal Court.
They added that according to the legal provisions, the announcement for the election of the president of the court is announced 60 days before the expiration of the mandate, but these 60 days were affected by the local election campaign.
“The local elections were scheduled for the beginning of August, and given the recommendation of the Anti-Corruption Commission that the Judicial Council should not elect and dismiss judges during the election campaign, it was simply not possible to announce an election for president,” Arsic said. noting that for the determination of the acting President of the court is not required to announce an announcement.
