XHABIR DERALLA
I understand, to some extent, the resentment towards politicians and their domination in the media and the public sphere. I also have understanding, not fully, about the calls for totally ignoring politicians and politics. That discontent and need to ignore them is not strange, especially because some of them have become protagonists in international reports as well, as creators of disinformation.
Except that this is impossible and unrealistic. In my opinion, the call for ignoring politicians is contrary to the role of the media and public.
Silence and the media/public are two different, more specifically, opposing categories. They are mutually exclusive. Just like activists and silence – they don’t tolerate each other. Actually, it’s good to watch politicians even when they lie, rather than not know what they are doing. Under the assumption (fantastic one) that politicians disappear from the media, they will very easily find another way to convey their message. Which again means media activity.
It’s enough for the media to stop with the false balance. And to enable as much as possible space for analyses and criticism from different sides, especially from the youth.
