Health Minister Venko Filipche proposed at Monday’s meeting of the main crisis coordination body that a nationwide curfew is imposed between 10 pm and 5 am, as recommended by the Commission for Infectious Diseases, the Ministry of Health said in a press release.
The Commission will additionally decide on a date when the curfew would start and how long it will be in place, adds the press release.
Minister Filipche pointed out that the Commission’s recommendation comes following a rise in new cases in the recent weeks due to virus transmission through gatherings of people, as well as non-compliance with the measures in place on wearing protective equipment, keeping physical distance, and the ban on groups.
Analyses conducted by the Infectious Diseases Commission have shown that due to non-compliance with the measures, the country will see new infections, as well as a rise in hospital admissions. Therefore, according to members of the Commission, a strict measure such as a curfew will have an effect. The Government at a session on Tuesday will decide on the proposal put forward by the Ministry of Health and the Commission for Infectious Diseases, reads the press release.
